Tom Shimin Ren, P.Eng., LEED AP, Principal
Tom is an experienced professional with a good track record of over 30 years in the industry. Throughout his career, he has been involved in a wide range of projects, spanning residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial development. Tom's expertise encompasses HVAC system design, plumbing and fire protection systems design, sustainable design, energy compliance analysis, district energy system design (DES), and district sharing system design (DESS).
Tom's work has been recognized with several prestigious awards and honors:
The Low-Temperature District Energy System of Whistler Athletes' Village won the second place in the 2013 ASHRAE Technology Award in Category VI - Residential – New at the ASHRAE society level.
The District Energy Sharing System (DESS) of Westhills Green Community in Langford earned the first place in the 2013 ASHRAE Technology Award in the Multi-family Residential Category in region XI and B.C. Chapter.
The Saanich Peninsula Waste Water Energy Recovery System Upgrade achieved second place in the 2013 ASHRAE Technology Award in the existing commercial buildings category in region XI and B.C. Chapter.
In 1996, the ShenZhen LongGong Construction Building was awarded the second place for Design Excellence by the Ministry of Construction of P.R. China.
Beyond his professional contributions, Tom gives back to the industry and community. He actively volunteers as a member of the interview panel for EGBC (Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia). Additionally, he played an important role in establishing the Association of Chinese Canadian Professional Engineers and Architects (ACCAPE) and continues to serve as a dedicated board member.
